Global Logistics and Trade Competitiveness

Objective:
FIAS and Stanford University hosted a one-day conference on Global Logistics and Trade Competitiveness in Washington, DC on Thursday, October 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The conference brought together a unique group of private manufacturing and retail firms, third party logistics providers, academia, and the World Bank Group to discuss challenges and opportunities faced in working in emerging economies with diverse logistics services. High-level speakers from the private sector shared their views and experiences

New World Bank trade logistics data for over 100 countries was presented focusing on the importance of logistics in today’s complex economy. Research based on this new trade logistics data was presented for the first time, highlighting important performance differences in logistics efficiency around the world and examining their impact on growth and competitiveness in global markets. These trade logistics data contributed to the new Doing Business 2006 Trading Across Borders Indicators.
